Hypnotised by a mushroom

Published on Sep 21, 2021

Only a couple of days have passed since I put it in the box. It's so beautiful and alien. Mushrooms are kind of like biological vacuum cleaners that can transform materials humans have not much interest in as food, into something we can indeed consume.

Apparently oyster mushrooms can be used to clean up environmental pollutants, cleaning up the mess that us humans have made. I partially blame materialism, the mental disease of instant gratification and Big Pharma for perpetuating the environmental pollution we see everywhere. What if we do some science and cultivate the appropriate type of fungi on, say, landfills?

I am not sure how plastic can be dealt with regarding mushrooms, I am no expert in the department of natural sciences, however it remains something to be explored!

I love how the blue background makes the mushrooms pop

The first thing I did after getting out of bed, was look at the mushroom. Every time I see it larger as the night before, I utter some sounds of amazement. I really feel like a kid again.

Don't you just want to TOUCH it? I have to stop myself from doing so, I don't want to risk getting some competing organism on the grow stick (is that even possible at this stage?) and potentially harm the mycelium.

In my next post, I will show you how I make a still air box, which I am going to use to inoculate sterilised substrate in. Gotta work clean, you know...
