The baby is growing up so fast
I officially declare my first grey oyster mushroom's date of birth 16 September 2021.
That's the day I added the perlite to the shotgun fruiting chamber, soaked it in water, cut the plastic around the grow stick and carefully laid it in its new home. It is now four days later and I am astonished at how fast this thing grows. And it's making even more pins. Wow.
I mist it with distilled water a couple of times a day since the humidity around here is not yet at a level which it should be for this time of year. The temperature is rising as it is spring time in my part of the world, so I suppose the timing to start this mushroom thing is perfect.
This week I need to build a still air box. which is a sort of low cost "clean space" chamber in which I can inoculate substrate with the liquid cultures, to avoid contamination of the sterilised substrate.
I cannot wait to harvest it and learn what an oyster mushroom tastes like. I've never eaten oyster mushrooms before and it's about time I familiarise myself with a wider variety of 'shroom.
